Kaylee Cunningham

Graduate Student, Nuclear Engineering

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Advancing nuclear technology, one step at a time.

Kaylee’s social media advocacy was recently highlighted on the MIT Nuclear Science and Engineering Website: https://web.mit.edu/nse/news/spotlights/2023/kaylee-cunningham.html

After volunteering as co-Vice Chair in 2022, Kaylee was selected as the 2023 Nuclear Engineering Student Delegation Chair. She will be working with her Vice-Chairs to organize and plan the 2023 Delegation, as well as interview and select delegates. More information can be found here: https://nesd.org

Just before graduation, Kaylee was awarded the University of Florida 2022 Gator Engineering Dean Weil Award for Engineering Excellence.

Kaylee runs a popular TikTok account, under the name “Ms. Nuclear Energy”. This account was created to erase the stigma behind nuclear energy and engage younger generations in clean energy and climate change discussions.

After traveling to Vienna, Austria to participate in the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) “International Conference on a Decade of Progress after Fukushima-Daiichi: Building on the Lessons Learned to Further Strengthen Nuclear Safety” as a Youth Essay Contest Finalist, Kaylee was afforded the opportunity to interact with the IAEA’s Director General, Rafael Mariano Grossi (pictured left).

Kaylee was featured in Issue 2, Chapter 3 of Daydream Magazine, a Gainesville, FL local magazine, in spring 2022.

As a 2021 Nuclear Engineering Student Delegation selected delegate, Kaylee met the congressional representative for Florida’s third congressional district, Kat Cammack (pictured right) at her office in Washington, D.C. Kaylee and Kat discussed the importance of nuclear energy, particularly in the state of Florida, and the importance of nuclear energy education.
